The Global Alliance of Leading Edge Schools for Sustainability (GALESS) aims to engage student teams around the world in sustainability research, innovation, and cross-cultural collaboration. It encourages young learners to tackle complex issues linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and to present actionable solutions. The network facilitates conferences, publication of student research, and dialogue between schools globally.
For GALESS Singapore 2025, the specific aims focus on the “Empty Pocket” domain—exploring poverty, inequality, social exclusion, and capability. Participating students are to apply international standards to analyze their country’s poverty situation, propose sustainable and STEM-based interventions, and engage in cross-school exchange of ideas. The conference provides a platform for students to present their research, learn through workshops, and compare findings across different contexts.
The GALESS Singapore 2025 conference runs from 29 June to 4 July 2025 (a 6-day duration). Participating schools include Anglican High School (Singapore), School of Science and Technology Singapore, Montgomery Bell Academy (USA), Wiedner Gymnasium (Austria), Dillmann Gymnasium (Germany), Bina Bangsa School (Indonesia), among others listed in GALESS’s “Learning Experiences.” The programmes include a months-long pre-conference research phase, submission of abstracts and reports, student team presentations during conference week, site visits in Singapore, workshops/learning sessions, evaluation by jury boards, certificate presentations, and publishing of the research reports in a GALESS book.
