GALESS Singapore Conference 2025

From 29 June to 3 July, SST hosted the GALESS Singapore Conference 2025, welcoming educators and student teams from Austria, Germany, Indonesia, the USA, Australia, and Singapore. Under the theme "Empty Pocket," delegates explored the intersections of sustainability, equity, and innovation.

Bridging Research and Innovation

The conference featured interdisciplinary research focused on global responsibility. Notable highlights included:

  • Keynote Presentation: SST delegates (Kendrick Dai, Khayra Handoko, Marco Alvarez, and Shine Arkar Minn) presented "Behind the Facade of Prosperity," an in-depth look at poverty in Singapore. The session was evaluated by a distinguished panel, including Dr. Theresa Lai (GALESS) and Dr. Padma Rao (SIT).

  • STEM & Design Workshops: Through sessions led by ARC@SST and the James Dyson Foundation, participants applied the Dyson design process to develop scientific solutions for low-income communities.

  • Poster Symposium: The event showcased research projects to guests of honor, including His Excellency Peter Storer, Ambassador of Austria to Singapore.

Cultural Connections

Beyond academics, the conference celebrated global citizenship through heritage tours and cultural booths. A standout moment included the Austrian delegation teaching their peers a traditional dance, embodying the spirit of international friendship.

By uniting diverse perspectives to tackle complex societal issues, the event successfully advanced SST’s commitment to authentic learning and global collaboration within the GALESS network.
