Nanyang Research Programme - Junior Researcher

The NRP offers a variety of research topics from NTU’s four Colleges – College of Engineering, College of Science, College of Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences, and College of Business – as well as the National Institute of Education. It seeks to offer students with a keen interest in and aptitude for research the opportunity to engage in the process of intellectual inquiry by undertaking projects in a real research environment under the supervision of NTU faculty, scientists and researchers.

Participants in the NRP will undertake eight months of research activities (from April to December the following year), either individually or in a pair, culminating in the submission of a Research Paper (in January the following year) and an Oral Presentation session (in March).

Projects offered in the NRP are classified into the following three categories:
(a) Engineering
(b) Sciences
(c) Business, Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences

The Nanyang Research Programme (NRP) is offered to J1 Junior College students and Year 5 students in IP (Integrated Programme) Schools.

The Nanyang Research Programme (NRP) Junior is offered to Sec 3 Secondary School students and Year 3 students in IP (Integrated Programme) Schools.

Two of our students joined the programme in May 2020 and completed it in May 2021.  They are:
THANGARAJA PRASANNA S4-01
KOH MENG HEAN, JASPER S4-05

Their project was titled:

Development of an integrated automated air quality control system to control the micro-climate of a location
and they won a Silver Award for their efforts.

Their mentors for the project were Dr Kenneth Lim and Mr Ahmed from NIE, NTU, who provided the team with critical comments and help during the project.

The project uses an Arduino and open source sensors to control the operation of an air conditioning unit. The air conditioning unit can be controlled by using a phone app as well.

The operation is shown in the video link: https://youtu.be/2FVL2ORXF80
