The 2023 Opportunity-X Science Fair is organised by Opportunity-X, a student-initiated organisation that aims to bring science research opportunities to underrepresented groups in society. They attempt to do this by sharing their knowledge of Science Research with middle school students in their community. With an increased exposure and experience in research, students can develop a passion and take their careers in a direction they never imagined.
The Opportunity-X Science Fair aims to give students an opportunity to explore their passions and gain critical research skills through this challenge. Scientists who are experts in their fields will judge the Science Exploration Challenge submissions.
Participants carried out a research and film a 3-5 minutes video to explain their Science Projects. To celebrate their various areas of excellence in the students efforts, besides the Top 3 places, there are also awards given to Creativity, Presentation and Scientific thought.
The fourth annual Opportunity X Science Fair took place online via Zoom on Sunday May 28 from 2 to 4 PM PDT.
SST students woke up on Monday 29 from 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM to participate in this online competition.

The judging criteria includes the following:
Creativity
• Creativity of topic?
• Creativity in the way the student presents ideas?
Scientific Thought
• How detailed were the explanations?
• How clearly are concepts stated?
Presentation
• How clear and confident is the student on the idea they’ve explained?
• How enthusiastic is the student about their topic?
• Is the presentation enjoyable?
SST submitted a total of 21 projects represented by 55 SST students who have just completed their Investigative Skills in Science projects in March 2022.
A total of 10 projects won awards at the competition, including 2 second placings.
