Underwater Robotics Olympiad

Robotics is an engaging engineering field that has captured the hearts of many youth. Republic Polytechnic (RP) has developed a core competency in robotics through the nurturing of our students’ interest, particularly in Underwater Robotics. Being an institute that supports Smart Nation’s initiatives, RP has introduced sensors and wireless capabilities to ourunderwater robot to demonstrate the concept of Internet of things (IoT) to secondary school students.

To cultivate the secondary school students’ interest in underwater robotics and to impart them the basic know-how in underwater robotics, Republic Polytechnic School of Engineering (SEG), is organising the 10th annual competition - Underwater Robotic Olympiad 2018. This year’s theme, Protect Water Wally, is in collaboration with Public Utilities Board (PUB) Marina Barrage’s 10th year anniversary, supported by Singapore Science Centre.

Underwater Robotic Olympiad 2018 is all about designing, building and controlling a robot to pass through a series of obstacles to achieve navigation and data collection. The data will then be transmitted wirelessly for remote viewing.

Note: As there is an award for “Best Design Underwater Robot” with the theme “Happy 10th Anniversary”, teams can bring their own designing materials (markers, stickers and any other stationery). These materials should NOT include (motors, battery packs, speed controllers, receivers, transmitters and cables). Teams are only allowed to bring materials to beautify their robots.
There will also be a “Best Instagram Photo” prize held on the actual event with 5 winners selected.

2 SST teams participated in this competition and achieve the following awards:
