Republic Polytechnic 3D Printing Challenge 2015

3D printing has materialised the imagination of millions of people around the world. With the potential to produce almost any object which is impossible by traditional methods, the 3D printer has become a useful tool to many people.

2015 marks Singapore’s 50th year of independence. In conjunction with SG50, students were invited to participate in the RP 3D Printing Competition 2015. Their task is to create a 3D printable souvenir to commemorate this important milestone. This prototype is something that a tourist will buy at a gift shop or a National Day gift for students.

From 10th to 14th November 2014, students were trained in Autodesk. They were then required to submit their finished designs by 7th January for the judging. On 11th February, the submissions were 3D-printed and judged on the following criteria:
1.       Interpretation and relevancy of SG50 theme (20%)
2.       Aesthetic (20%)
3.       Creativity (20%)
4.       Complexity (20%)
5.       Instagram “likes” (20%)
